The Mission of the American Bible Society is to make the Bible available to every person in a language and format each can understand and afford, so all people may experience its life-changing message. We have been closely monitoring developments of the outbreak of Swine Flu for your health and safety, with the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, as well as with Affiliated Physicians, our medical consultants for health issues and pandemic information.

Influenza is inherently a significant illness. Although you may continue to hear bits and pieces of information on the news, we thought it would be helpful to provide you with facts about this illness so that you are fully informed and can take preventative measures. Attached is a very informative Q & A prepared by Dr. Thomas Frieden, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene which describes the facts about what the Swine Flu is, how it is spread, what to do if you have flu-like symptoms, etc., in a clear and concise format. Although the attached was written for a New York audience, it is clearly applicable to everyone in the U.S.

Most important is not to get caught up in the media frenzy but instead, calmly think about important safeguards that you, and those around you, can do every day to stay healthy. These important safeguards include:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Use the hand sanitizers by the restrooms often.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Avoid close contact with people that are sick. Influenza is spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • If you get sick, stay home and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

We hope you have found this information helpful and informative. We will continue to monitor the situation as developments occur.   Go to www.nyc.gov or call 311 for the City Of New York's updated list of public school closures due to H1N1 flu..

In the event of inclement weather at our Liberty Ridge office located in Wayne, Pennsylvania, call 610.647.8080, Ext. 3494 (or type SNOW at the directory listing) for updated information on the status of the office closure or delayed opening.
